Let me fill you in on a little secret I’ve learned in my 5 floor walk-up New York City apartment – having a teeny-tiny apartment doesn’t decrease the opportunity for style and functionality! You can have ALL OF IT, even in a small space.
See my top tips below for making a small space look amazing, while being packed with storage options and functional design pieces.
Movable/Multi-Functional Furniture: Sometimes in a small space you are forced to have one area take on multiple roles. Movable furniture can morph your home into a spot where you can easily entertain, do yoga, or stretch out and watch a movie
Keep Open Space: Keep accessories to a minimum for a relaxing feel.
Creative Touches: In my own apartment, I kept the neutral backdrop of white walls and exposed brick, then added in small details to give a luxe look. Examples could be an abstract print, small gold finish statue, a plant, or printed throw pillows. Since you’re working with a small space, show your style in a subtle way without screaming it!
Pick Metallic Accents: In my living room, I choose silver as my metallic accent. My couch has a silver nailhead trim along the arms. I matched that silver accent to our oversized hanging lamp, wall mirror frame, and side table accents. This brought together the small space with a consistent theme.
Avoid Clutter: Pair down and declutter. Don’t purchase chachkas when you’re on vacation, window shopping, or browsing online. Trust me, in a small space – the less the better!
Make Your Bed: The most productive thing you can do to start your day off right is making your bed. It’s much more welcoming and aesthetically pleasing to come home to a neat bedroom than a messy pile of blankets and sheets. Talk about a small sense of accomplishment!
Attractive Storage: Enhance your storage space by designating a place for everything. Whether it’s a kitchen cart, woven baskets, exposed clothing rack, or hidden storage boxes.
